LEADS: Professor Elka Todorova (Bulgaria) and Professor Christina Foss(Norway)
WPs 5 and 6 will focus on developing the empirical work that will support the thematic WPs (2-4) and the assessment of the intervention WP7. More specifically, the key informant interviews will inform WP2, the focus groups and the biographical interviews with people with diabetes will inform WP3, and the focus groups and interviews with members of non-governmental, voluntary and community groups will inform work in WP4. The findings of this WP and WP6 will also inform development of a set of interventions adapted to specific national contexts WP7.
Description of work and role of partners
The main input in this WP will be offered by the University of National and World Economy and the Institute of Health Research under the leadership of Prof. Todorova and Dr. Foss. The leading partners will be responsible for developing all guidelines for data collection, training, and analysis. They will oversee translation, transcription and data entry processes and will be responsible for finalising all interview schedules. In the latter they will be supported by the relevant leaders of the thematic WPs. All team leaders will be responsible for adapting the guidelines and schedules to their national contexts and for conducting the data collection. The leading members of this WP will also be responsible for developing the initial analysis of the collected data that will then be finalised by the leaders of the respective thematic WPs. We will recruit 15 key informants (WP2) who may include representatives of government and local authorities politicians, academics, civil servants and health professionals, and our aim will be to represent a wide range of views. In our sample of representatives and users of voluntary, community and local groups (WP4) we will aim to recruit respondents who represent a wide range of groups in terms of geographical coverage (national, regional or local) and functions (e.g. support for people with specific conditions; broader well-being and lifestyle; delivering specific programmes or interventions, etc.).
The biographical interviews (WP3) will target people with diabetes from deprived groups that will be harmonised across the partner countries but will also aim to reflect national specificities. All interviews and focus group discussions will be transcribed and analysed, and a selected sample will be translated into English.
